Philbrook and Paine Marbleized Salmon Fly ReelFor sale here is a Philbrook and Paine marbleized salmon fly reel made circa 1880. Francis J. Philbrook was a "Gunsmith's Machinist" in Bangor, Maine when he assigned over his key patent related to the first American made raised pillar reel to Hiram Leonard. Philbrook and Ed Payne then went on to manufacture the reels for Leonard. This reel bears the faceplate stamp "H. L. Leonard Maker." I've been told that fifteen to twenty of the P&P marbleized

Comes with the original neoprene case and the original box

The thin forgiving tips along with the authoritative swelled butt give this rod a lovely balance of strength and finesse

The original owner's name is written on the butt along with the rod information

Set up for left-hand retrieve

The rod has never been fished and remains in like new condition

No box or pouch

Comes with its original Hardy bag but no tube
