Menai Strait Lobster, Gyotaku Printed in Red ink.This lobster was caught in a pot by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught in the Menai Stait. Lobster are a challenge to print as they are so 3 dimensional. Its very tricky printing the legs and their antenna. This lobster is printed on Chinese mulberry paper measuring 69. 5x34cm. Ive used a high quality screen printing ink that is both light fast and permanent. Each print I make is unique as I apply fresh ink before each print is taken

My newer prints all come with a certificate to show they are authentic and they have the date the print was made

each fish is printed individually so this is actually 8 individual prints on the same sheet of paper

A simple glue which I make myself if applied to the reverse of the print and a sheet of Masa paper is pressed on to it and left to dry

It's our local walk

The name for this process is Urauchi and it literally means to glue on backing

chosen for its clarity and durability

The ink is Japanese Sumi

This tuna tail print is on mitsumata measuring approx 80cm x 54cm and is printed in Speedball Acrylic Ink

Like a lobster it's much more 3 dimensional than a fish so there is a lot of work to do making things don't slip and slide around

This print will fit in a standard A3 frame
