Border Garden Coat

Border Garden CoatThis piece is inspired by a beaded coat from the 1920s. We reimagined the beadwork with motifs from a 1789 sampler. Samplers, sewing exercises used to teach and perfect needlework skills, have been standard practice for centuries but are particularly associated with early American craft. We reproduced the sampler's pink, green, and yellow border along the edges of this coat, which closes with a hidden hook and eye clasp. All beading is worked by hand.
