The rod was made in 1951, the fifth year of production after Bill Phillipson left Granger. As the story goes, when Bill left Granger after an unsuccessful attempt to buy the company and started his own company, Agnes Marshall told him he would fail within five years. So in his fifth year of production he wrote "51" on each rod made to commemorate this milestone. Gold silks
