Sardine Gyotaku Print

Sardine Gyotaku PrintSardines make a lovely print. However they are pretty tricky to deal with. They easily split open and leak oil over the print so getting the pressure right is important. The print is blue and green largely with a bit of iridescent gold. I have used premium quality acrylic ink. The fish eye is hand painted after printing. It is signed by myself, Jane Evans as well as using my hanko stamp, the traditional method of marking artwork in Japan. This A4

I try and do more than one so that I'm always guaranteed that one of them will make it though the whole process of printing and wet mounting

The print measures 34

By using this process

To print multiple shells is also quite difficult as lining the paper up so they sit side by side takes practice

In fact my fish come from various sources but are not caught by me as I’m a pretty hopeless fisherman

This bass is printed on Thai mulberry paper measuring 51x35cm

a second sheet of paper is rolled out and stuck down to the back using a Shuro brush
